QuadsQuads are a type of all terrain vehicle. ATVs or all terrain vehicles is an umbrella term that encompasses many different types of motorized vehicles. All terrain vehicles can be two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, six-wheelers, dump trucks, and side-by-side vehicles. As a result of the wide variety of all-terrain vehicles on the market, a short-hand was created. Quads are four-wheelers. They come in two main styles, sports and utility. The models that are classified as sports machines have better acceleration and speed than four wheelers that are utility vehicles. Sport models are generally built for racing and extreme sports competition. Those that are utility all-terrain vehicles are more powerful, heavier, and can haul and tow more than sports quads. Utility quads are typically used by hunters, farmers, ranchers, and other people who work outdoors. These vehicles generally come with specific safety features that reduce the risk of serious injury. Four wheelers, for example, have a low center of gravity, yet decent ground clearance to reduce the chances of rollovers. Even so, they can be dangers in the wrong hands, or when unsupervised. Anybody who rides them for work or recreation should always take the proper safety precautions. In some states and jurisdictions, helmets are mandated by law for these vehicles.
